The PC gaming scene has become a bit of a mess in recent months, what with the arrival of the Epic Games Store shaking up the status quo of Steam being the dominant force. But those two aren’t the only major players in the space of digital storefronts on PC. Among many others, there’s also Origin, EA’s storefront where they have exclusively kept their releases for years, and have been pushing subscription services.
As it turns out though, EA might be bringing its games back to Steam very soon. Not too long ago, Twitter user @RobotBrush a change in the launch configurations in Steam, which look like they’ll allow users to run Origin games via Steam. This was enough to kick off a bunch of speculation- only, recently, EA themselves sent out a steam of a mug with EA’s logo on it, and steam rising out. Yes. Steam. EA. Not that subtle.
Let’s hope it happens soon. Unification of game libraries is a huge deal on any platform, PC included, while Steam as an app itself is one that inherently draws a lot of customers for multiple reasons. If it does happen, hopefully it’ll be announced soon. Stay tuned for any updates.
