Coaching Mastery Levels
Coaches can have three levels of Mastery in Career Mode–Novice, Accomplished, or Expert, in any given ‘Tactical Vision’:
- Counter-Attack
- Gegenpressing
- Kick & Rush
- Park The Bus
- Standard
- Tiki Taka
- Wing Play
If your team already has a winning Tactical Vision, hiring a coach with an Expert Mastery of the same will only serve to further enhance and strengthen it. On the other hand, if you find your team lacking in a particular Tactical Vision, you can bring on a coach that will further player development, and bolster them during matches.
Coach XP
Coaches can be leveled up somewhat by gaining XP for matches played and won under their mentorship. This will not be of any utility to coaches that have already attained Expert Mastery in their field, but does benefit all other coaches in the team’s roster.
Player Attribute Boosts
Players themselves can benefit greatly on an individual basis under the tutelage of coaches. A minimum of three and a maximum of nine attributes can be increased by a coach, based on their Knowledge level Mastery. Player Sharpness is also a factor, which determines to what degree the boost will be to any given attribute.
Player Development
Over the long term, coaches can also impact player development. This is based on coach skill ratings in the four Departments, expressed as between 1 and 5 stars. Those stars determine which players benefit the most from their training.
Shuffling Coaches
While a given coach may only be strong in a particular Department, there is nothing stopping you from installing them elsewhere should the need arise.
Limitations
There are only so many coaching staff slots to be had, and that can only be increased on a yearly basis by board approval. The pool of potential coaches is not static either, and finding the perfect coach can take some patience. Firing coaches is an option when they no longer have anything to offer in terms of player development, or if their field is completely overlapped by another more rounded coach. This is a no turning back scenario as it involves a severance package and permanent removal of the coach from future hiring.
