Following our report on a potential VR Headset announcement by Sony, EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson has said that the company is currently working on potentially developing a virtual reality device that will deliver what EA calls “get in” gaming via regular, normal-people VR tech or “through some hologram that evolves out of your living room floor.”
Andrew Wilson talks about EA’s three gaming “modalities”- “Lean back” or console gaming, “lean in” or PC gaming and “lean in” or handheld gaming. Wilson says that with VR, EA is looking to get into “get in” gaming.
“The thing I challenge my team to right now is, ‘Listen, there’s clearly a desire to add a modality of play to the three we’re currently focused on,” Wilson said while speaking with Polygon. “I don’t know who the technology partner is that’s going to deliver that modality for us, but let’s start thinking now about the experiences […],’ so that we can deliver experiences that make sense for you; experiences that deliver on the promise and the fantasy of being inside a video game.”
