One of the new announcements at Sony’s pre Tokyo Game Show PlayStation Japan show today was Earth Defense Force 5, the newest entry in the long running series that has us take on a race of invading bug like aliens, and defend the earth from their onslaught.

The new game debuted with a trailer showing off, again, a race of bug like aliens invading and attacking the earth- because if they weren’t, there wouldn’t be anything to defend the earth from, and there wouldn’t be an earth defense force (see what I did there?) needed. There also seems to be a giant frog holding a gun (no, seriously) in the mix this time around.

The trailer is fairly short, and we couldn’t get much of an idea of what to expect from this new entry when it hits. That said, no doubt that series fans will be happy with whatever EDF5 brings to the table- if nothing else, it is likely to at least provide for some nice, dumb, mindless action and fun.
