Eidos president emphasises on the importance of fast Broadband for gaming

"Largest entertainment industry in the world."

Eidos president Ian Livingstone has mentioned that in the future faster broadband will play a major role in nourishing gaming as they move from a product to service.

It’s a known fact that digital distribution has picked up and almost all PC games are available online, some of them more than 30GB in size. This is only going to increase, of course. He revealed that the gaming industry is one of the biggest entertainment industry in the world and ISPs need to pay attention to it.

“Games are now moving from a product to a service,” he said in a presentation at the Broadband World Forum 2012.

“We’re still having to fight bandwidth to avoid latency. Big games need big broadband. It’s kind of crazy that we’re fighting broadband the whole time in our industry. You’re kind of holding us back in many respects. We want to do more.”

“So, you must plan for what you can’t predict as well as what you can. Super-fast games will drive demand for super-fast broadband, so, ISPs, please do not rest on your laurels.”
