Besides being one of the best Far Cry games ever, Far Cry 5 also manages to be one of the best-looking games in the series. The series has seen a boost in its visual fidelity ever since Far Cry Primal. The primary reason behind these improvements is the shift of the Dunia engine towards exclusive support for current gen consoles and modern gaming PCs.
Far Cry 5 is a beautiful game and during many moments it comes eerily close to looking photorealistic. This is thanks to some fantastic lighting framework implemented by the team at Ubisoft Montreal. The world is littered with a ton of foliage, excellent ground texture geometry and impressive draw distance. Furthermore, we witnessed next to no pop-in issues even when you are flying in a plane. Montana is by far one of the detailed worlds Ubisoft have created compared to say something like the one found in Ghost Recon Wildlands which prioritized quantity over quality.
The iterative consoles are perhaps the best place to play Far Cry 5 if you are a console owner. Both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions offer extremely impressive levels of performance and visual fidelity. To begin with, the Xbox One X version runs at 1800p resolution whereas the PS4 Pro version seems to be running in the region of 1650p. Both versions run at a rock solid 30 frames per second and we witnessed next to no drops on either platform.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be different graphical modes for either version. A screenshot was released during the pre-release period which showcased two different modes but that seems to have been completely removed. Not sure what the reasons could be but it’s unfortunate these options are no longer available.
So as expected, the Xbox One X version takes the lead here with better resolution but the PS4 Pro version is no way an inferior version.
