EA Sports already did some interesting things with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S’ hardware with FIFA 21’s next-gen version last year, but as a game that’s had significantly more time of native development on the newer hardware, the upcoming FIFA 22 will be expected to do better than its predecessor. In a recent PlayStation Blog update, EA Sports touched upon some of the new PS5-specific features you can expect to see in the game.

The DualSense implementation sounds like the most significant. Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers were supported in last year’s game, but FIFA 22 will also be introducing some of its own improvements, especially to the former, unique vibrations for crosses, sliding, shielding, hitting the back of the net with the ball, and more.

3D audio is also being leveraged for a more atmospheric and authentic sounding experience. EA writes: “With 3D Audio, you’ll hear team mates’ shouts in the sound mix, as well as close-up audio raised higher to match the perspective shift as the camera pans to fans in the stands. In certain leagues you’ll even hear the iconic banging drums, deafening horns, and shrill whistles from the terraces that will give you a sense of what it feels like to play football on the biggest stages.”

FIFA 22 will launch on October 1 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. The Switch will get another Legacy Edition release as well.
