FIFA games are always guaranteed to sell, and the yearly football sim franchise remains a top-seller for EA year over year, but this year’s game has got off to a much better start than any of its predecessors. EA has announced that FIFA 23 has enjoyed a record-breaking launch for the franchise, seeing over 10.3 million players across all platforms in its first week alone.

“The response from our fans has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re thrilled that our community is playing with their favourite players and teams across FIFA 23 in record numbers, ” said Nick Wlodyka, SVP and GM of EA Sports FC. “With both the Men’s and Women’s World Cups, and exciting updates to our women’s club football content in game still yet to come, we’re just getting started on providing players with the most authentic and immersive experience yet.”

FIFA 23 is set to receive World Cup content updates ahead of the tournament’s kickoff in November. The title also recently debuted on top of the UK charts, beating the physical launch numbers of FIFA 22.

FIFA 23 is the last game in EA Sports’ annual franchise that will bear the “FIFA” name, with EA’s long-standing exclusive agreement with the sporting body coming to an end. Starting next year, new instalments in the franchise will be called EA Sports FC.

In our review of FIFA 23, we awarded it a score of 7/10, saying, “The last game in the series to bear the FIFA name is a fittingly unambitious entry. It makes minor changes here and there, but there’s not an awful lot to differentiate it from last year’s offerings. Thankfully, the on-pitch action is still a hell of a lot of fun.” Read the full review through here.
