Grand Theft Auto 5 Shipments Hit 85 Million

GTA5 is a force of nature.

At this point, GTA5 has become a force of nature that simply cannot be stopped. In its latest financial earnings report, Take Two confirmed that global shipments of the game have topped 85 million– this makes it the highest selling packaged game of all time.

In fact, to give you an idea of the scope of GTA5‘s sales- only three home consoles ever have sold more than GTA5 alone has managed. If GTA5 was a country, it would be one of the most populous countries on the planet (in fact, it is almost three times the size of Canada as it is right now).

Take Two expects to have some of this success carry over next year, where it expects a record breaking fiscal year 2019 thanks to Red Dead Redemption 2. Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently planned to release between April 1 2018 and March 31 2019, for PS4 and Xbox One- how much of the success from GTA bleeds into it will be interesting to see for sure.
