Halo 5 Guardians: Fans Angry After 343 Industries Remove Split Screen

Can fan backlash get 343 to change it's mind?

Halo 5 Guardians

While there is a lot of excitement surrounding Halo 5: Guardians, one piece of information that just slipped out might tamp down that excitement just a little bit. When the game was officially revealed a number of questions popped up and to some, the most important question of all is whether or not this title will include split-screen play. That particular feature is one that has been in the series from the beginning and has made playing co-op  that much more fun.

The company had actually made it clear it was going to remove the split screen gameplay for a while now, saying it needed to do so in order to make sure Guardians was able to run at 60fps. After this announcement the fans of the series actually launched a petition asking for 343 to bring back the beloved feature. It appears that the petition wasn’t enough, considering one of those fans tweeted to studio head Josh Holmes asking him for clarification as to whether or not the game might be bringing back the feature and he pretty much shot it down.

Holmes was asked to “clarify” the situation regarding split screen and he tweeted back, “All MP modes use full screen on dedicated servers, incl Coop Campaign, Arena and Warzone.” This of course wasn’t exactly “no there is no split screen” but it was as close as you could possibly get without specifically saying that. The answer, sparked a bit outrage on Twitter, and has even led some fans to announce they won’t buy the game without split screen included, including canceling their preorder and showing their receipt as confirmation. With the release date so close, it seems unlikely 343 would put the feature back in, but perhaps they could change it in a patch after release. Halo 5: Guardians is launching on the Xbox One on October 27.
