Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has been in development for a very long time. It was originally announced for the PS4 in 2014 at Gamescom, and has disappeared and resurfaced multiple times since. As we’ve learned more about the game – about a Celtic woman who must take a journey within herself to vanquish her internal demons – we have grown more and more interested in it, but so far, we still don’t seem to have the game in our hands.
But it’s coming. In an update posted to the PlayStation Blog, developers Ninja Theory confirmed that the game has just entered ‘Alpha’, which means it is now playable for the first time from start to finish. All of their performance capture scenes have been recorded, and voice work is complete- and is now being added to the game.
“That doesn’t mean that the game is finished, however,” Ninja Theory adds. “There’s still a huge amount of work to be done across Hellblade. Some parts of the game are starting to look and feel just as we envisioned, whereas others are still only built to a basic level. The important thing at this stage is that all of the areas are laid out and the design clearly defined.”
That said, as of right now, they are sticking to the release window of 2017, which means that for now, they are committed to launching the game this year. Hellblade will launch on PS4 and PC.
