Here’s How Far Cry 4 Co-Op Works If You Don’t Have The Game

DS Download Play makes a return!

Far Cry 4

One of the big surprises of Sony’s conference was their announcement that you would be able to play Far Cry 4 co-op with your friends even if they do not have the game. It sounds like a staggering technical accomplishment, and now, we have some more details on how it will work, particularly if you’re on the end of the transaction that doesn’t have a copy of their own.

Essentially, this entire process with work like DS Download Play- remember that? One system is the host system, and it shares a truncated copy of the game with others wirelessly, who them download it on to their systems. The game is held in the system’s RAM, and is deleted once the system is turned off. That’s exactly how this will work as well.

Eurogamer reports that PS4 users without Far Cry 4 will be able to download a separate app that allows them to be invited into their friends’ Far Cry 4 games. The download will be massive, since, you know, you’ll be downloading the entire game outside of the story only content. But once downloaded, you can play with your friend even if you don’t have the game itself.

It’s pretty neat (though at least the first time, this will almost certainly kill the spontaneity of co-op). Let’s see how well it works in practice.
