Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy has earned quite the reputation as one of the best collectible rich-games on the market. There are a bunch of items you can collect in the game, and the rewards are nothing to scoff at either. The Butterfly Chests are on the latest list of collectibles that have come into the spotlight. Your goal here is to follow a trail of butterflies to the chest that’ll open once you’ve completed the ‘Follow the Butterflies’ side quest.

Talk to Clementine, located in the Three Broomsticks (Hogsmeade), to receive the quest. However, you do have to complete the Jackdaw’s Rest main quest to get access to this side quest. This guide discusses the locations for all of them. Let’s begin!

How to find the Butterfly Chests

You should know a few things about this quest before starting the side quest:

  • The Butterfly Chests don’t appear on the map.
  • You’ll have to visit the location where the butterflies are said to appear and look for them. The NPCs will spread rumors about the butterflies appearing in different locations throughout the map. Head in the general direction until you spot a kaleidoscope of butterflies.
  • Once you’re near a cluster of butterflies an insect icon appears on your minimap. Follow it to reach the chest.
  • You cannot find the chests unless you follow the butterflies to the chests’ location.

Butterfly Chest Locations in Hogwarts Legacy

Hogsmeade – You can find the first cluster of butterflies by talking to Clementine Willardsey. He will be present at the Three Broomsticks. Head over there and talk to him after completing the main quest – Jackdaw’s Rest and he will give you the quest to find the first chest. After this mission, you’ll be able to find the rest of the chests in the game.

Clagmar Coast – Go to the northernmost tip of the area. You should encounter the butterflies to the south-west of the bandit camp and Field Guide map icon. Keep heading down the path and you should see the Butterfly chest right around the corner.

Feldcroft – Head up to the top of the cliff and you’ll spot the butterflies in between an enemy layer to the south-east and a treasure vault in the north-west. Once you’re at the midpoint, head down the cliffs and you’ll spot the chest underneath a tree.

Feldcroft – Starting the Feldcroft Catacomb Floo Flames head south-east. You’ll come across a Field Guide Icon and a cluster of bandit camps. The Butterfly chest will lie directly to the west of these two locations on top of a cliff.

Forbidden Forest – head towards the south. Look for a triangle-like line in between a lair and the two bandit camps. You’ll be able to spot the chest outside a dilapidated house located over a small bridge.

Hogwarts Valley – Starting at the Hogwarts Valley Floo Flames, head east until you spot the butterflies near or under the bridge archways. Keep climbing up the hill to reach the Butterfly Chest.

Hogwarts Valley – Keep heading west from Keenbridge and go past the ruins. Enter the woods and you’ll see the Butterfly Chest sitting on top of a hill.

Hogwarts Valley – South-east of the region there will be a bandit castle. You should see the butterfly cluster right next to it and the Chest will be down by the river.

North Hogwarts Region – Follow the dirt track along the stream/river and keep heading north until you find the butterflies. It should sit right on top of a treasure vault in the map. Head down the path before ascending the hill once again until you come across a wildflower patch containing the chest.

North Ford Bridge – Starting at the Pitt Upon Ford Floo Flmaes, head east until you come across a bridge with the butterflies. There should be a lake with a waterfall and the Chest will be located close to the waterbody.

South Hogwarts Region – Starting at the bottom-left corner of the Quidditch stadium keep heading west until you come across the butterflies in the nearby cliffs. Keep heading down the path and you’ll come across a wildflower patch containing the Butterfly Chest.
