Given how massively successful Hogwarts Legacy has been for WB Games (it currently stands at over 30 million units sold worldwide), there was never any doubt that the company would be prioritizing a sequel sooner rather than later, something that WB Games itself has suggested in the past as well. Now, president David Haddad has confirmed to Variety that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is indeed in development at Avalanche Software.
As pr Haddad, the sequel is a “very big priority” to Warner Bros. Discovery as a whole, and that the game will also have some narrative ties to HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series. Given that Hogwarts Legacy itself was set about a century before the events of the Harry Potter books (and movies), that might suggest that the next game will have a time skip.
Interestingly enough, Haddad also went on to add that the success that Hogwarts Legacy enjoyed last year also helped give Warner Bros. as a whole confidence to invest further in the Wizarding World IP. “The rest of the company was very curious about what we helped to unlock with Hogwarts Legacy last year.,” he said.
How far away the sequel is – or its announcement is – remains to be seen, but if recent reports are anything to go by, a Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition is also currently in development and due out next year, and is allegedly set to add 10-15 hours of new content.
