Greater game mode variety

The Battle Commander multiplayer modes are a real breath of fresh air. They offer that extra layer of objectives and focus to make Homefront’s multiplayer even more intense. The problem is that they are the only meaningful game variations to break up the monotony of Ground War and Team Deathmatch. As ungrateful as it may sound, we are used to a greater variety in modes in our modern games, something which needs to taken care of in the future. A horde-style mode wouldn’t go amiss either.

Better Visuals

Homefront's visuals weren't bad, but they weren't the best by any means

The graphics weren’t that bad in Homefront, but they weren’t great either. Considering the emphasis the game’ story placed on atmosphere, it could’ve been heightened just that little bit more had the visuals been sharper. As time ticks on we can only hope that Homefront 2 will both play and look the part simultaneously.

Longer Single player

The main criticism that dogged Homefront’s critical reception seems to revolve around its incredibly short single player component. The problem was also highlighted by the way the game ends so abruptly, almost seeming like it just cuts out rather than ending properly. Rumours would have us believe that DLC will fill the gaps left in the game’s single player but, whilst this is an all too common marketing strategy these days, leaving it up to DLC to finish a story is just cheap. Let’s hope this won’t be the case in future Homefront titles.

More Originality

Homefront plays out a bit like an FPS greatest hits. It liberally borrows from many other more established franchises but, whilst it takes the best from multiple worlds and is a fine example of the FPS genre, there isn’t a huge amount to differ it from its competitors. Granted, the in game currency is interesting, but it’s more a continuation of previous staples within the genre as opposed to a completely new mechanic. With a bit of luck, Kaos Studios will pick up on criticisms regarding Homefront’s lack of originality and make sure that HF2 has the X factor it needs.
