In Mass Effect 2 we are introduced to the Illusive Man, whose intentions are quite clear from the beginning, but what we don’t know about the Illusive Man is what he had done to himself. In Mass Effect 3, we learn that the Illusive Man had undergone surgeries and had reaper tech implanted in him, which led to the conclusion that he was indoctrinated all along. It was quite a revelation and a shock.
