Development

Iron Galaxy is developing this addition to the game and has announced a couple of new characters that will be joining the existing stable of fighters. At E3 2015, Microsoft announced that Killer Instinct and all three of its seasons would be coming to the PC in the future. At Gamescom 2015 the first brand new character addition to the game was announced. As has been the case with other characters in the series, there are some fighters that are from outside the Killer Instinct universe. The first character like this in Season 3 was announced as the character Rash from the old Battletoads game. The development team also announced that Rash would get a short testing period so that players could try the character out and give feedback on what they like and don’t like about his fighting style.

Shortly after the news of Rash joining Season 3, the soundtrack for Season 2 was released as an album on iTunes and then the composer for the music announced that he was leaving the series. The musical composers for Season 3 were confirmed by Iron Galaxy to be Atlas Plug and Celldweller.

On August 5, 2015 the official trailer for Rash was released. At the same time, Iron Galaxy announced another character that would be joining Season 3. Kim Wu, who is actually a classic character was both announced had her trailer officially released. On December 1, 2015 Shadow Jago’s official trailer was released, meaning he was another character that would be added to the upcoming addition to the game. On February 21, 2016, yet another “guest” character was announced for the game. Arbiter from the Halo series has been officially announced as being in the game when Season 3 launches in March of 2016.

Iron Galaxy announced that new characters weren’t going to be the only things coming in Killer Instinct‘s Season 3. The development team announced it was adding some new graphics technology. Part of this technology included reflection technology for each of the stages. The team also said that it was actually re-introducing screen space color adjustments. The developers also said they were going to have new and better shading technology that would make the fighters and the surrounding areas look more realistic. The company also announced that, along with the new tech and the new characters, there would be three new stages though they have not yet explained the specifics of these stages.

Story

Killer Instinct: Season Two

The story that has been running throughout the series is actually a kind of inversion of what fighting game fans saw in Killer Instinct 2. There is a giant corporation called Ultratech which is now thought of by the general public as a humanitarian organization that is attempting to help mankind adapt and survive the future. The company is led by a cybernetic CEO known as ARIA and she has unleashed a number of horrors on the world as a way of trying to test and push the extent of the human ability to evolve. Now all kinds of demons, monsters, mutants and aliens have descended on the earth in order to do battle. It has been pointed out that while there are some aspects that were taken from the original run of the series, the game is much more story driven than the original two titles.

Gameplay

Killer Instinct: Season Two

Killer Instinct Season 3 has the same gameplay aspects of the first two seasons, with a few tweaks to moves that are made by fighters in the game. New combos as well as souped up combos for the characters are going to be introduced in this particular season though there hasn’t been a ton of specifics as of February, 2016.

Characters

36. Killer Instinct

Some fighters from previous seasons of Killer Instinct will be playable in Season 3. There are a number of new characters that have been confirmed for launch when Season 3 launches in March:

Rash: This character from the game Battletoads is a “guest fighter” that comes equipped with his own special moves. Rash is now a giant humanoid toad but he was once a man named Dave Shar who got sucked into a computer game and transported to another planet. Rash has managed to make his way back to earth in order to join the battle.

Kim Wu: A Korean martial artist who fights with a pair of nunchaku. Before she was a battle hardened veteran, she was a fashion design student who was prophesied to be the one who would take down one of the biggest monsters to walk the earth.

Arbiter: An alien warrior who is Killer Instinct’s second guest character who is well known to fans of the Halo series. This warrior was once a high ranking commander of the Covenant forces but he failed a number of high profile missions and was given the title of “Arbiter.” Angered by his new lot in life, he eventually turned against his former comrades and has now found himself on Earth.

Tusk: Tusk is a barbarian warrior who relies heavily on a two-handed sword in order to take on his foes.

Gargos: A dark gargoyle-like monster who is one of the most feared villains in Killer Instinct 3. This is a character that made his first appearance at the end of Season 2.
