Kinect ships 14 million units

Posted By | On 29th, Oct. 2010

Sixthaxis has found a rather interesting piece of data about how many Kinect have been shipped to retailers till now. We are talking in millions here, 14 millions.

Taiwan-based optical lens maker Newmax Technology has become the only supplier of camera modules used in Microsoft Kinect sensors and will ship as many as 14 million units of these modules in 2010, according to industry sources.

This means Microsoft has ordered atleast 14 million pieces of the device so far and considering most retailers have sold out on their initial stock, we can safely assume that all of 14 million Kinects would be sold by year end, which if true would be the biggest success for MS in recent times. Looks like their 500 million marketing budget for the device is already reaping its fruits.

Holiday looks set to be a joyous affair for Microsoft indeed.
