Lucario, the aura based fighting type Pokemon that Nintendo introduced to the Super Smash bros. series with Brawl, replacing Mewtwo, has been confirmed to be returning to Super Smash Bros. on 3DS and Super Smash Bros. on Wii U, developer Sakurai confirmed on his Miiverse feed today.

Lucario joins an immense (and growing still) cast of characters from Super Smash Bros. Brawl that are returning to the fourth entry in the series, as well as several newcomers, which include fan favorites like Mega-man and the Villager from Animal Crossing.

Lucario’s fighting style was more focused and generally considered an improvement on Mewtwo, the character from Pokemon that he ended up replacing; his aura based attacks deal hefty damage, and his final smash is one of the deadliest ones in the game.

Super Smash Bros. will be getting two new entries this year, the first the series has seen since 2008’s Brawl on the Wii- one on the 3DS and one on the Wii U. Both the games have identical character sets, though the arenas available seem to differ by quite a bit in the two offerings.

The game is due out later this year. Stay tuned.
