When Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was officially unveiled earlier this year, developer Skydance New Media confirmed that it will take place in Occupied Paris in the midst of the Second World War. As it turns out, however, that’s one of several locations that will be featured in the game, with another one now confirmed.
Via Entertainment Weekly, the developer has confirmed that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will also see players travelling to Wakanda, with a piece of artwork revealed to showcase what the location’s dense jungles will look like. You can view it below.
According to Skydance New Media boss Amy Hennig, best known as the creator of Legacy of Kain and Uncharted, the game will “tell a globe-trotting story”, with several other “yet-to-be-revealed locations” also featured. As per Hennig, the location will also tout “photo-real, cinema-real level of detail”.
As for what to expect from Wakanda’s role in the game’s story, especially given its period setting, Hennig explained, “Wakanda at this point in time is hidden away from the outside world and protected by this impenetrable jungle. They are non-interventionist, but events transpire that pull them into the conflict. They have to protect their interests. The world is getting smaller. No satellites yet, but there will be soon. You can shoot down planes that maybe want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?”
Hennig went on to add that the game’s primary protagonists – Captain America and Black Panther – are “confronting the same enemies and they’re concerned about the same events that are transpiring, but they’re initially almost working against each other. Good people have to work together to overcome evil. If you separate, then you’re not going to succeed.”
Hennig has also spoken about Marvel 1943’s ambitions in terms of visual fidelity, and how developer Skydance New Media is “trying to do some groundbreaking stuff with cinematically presented games”. Read more on that through here.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is due out in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
