Marvel Cosmic Invasion has just given us a look at that new game mode it teased a while ago.

We’ve been curious what it was all about, and it’s a very welcome addition in the new Siege of Castle Doom DLC. The premise is quite simple. You need to navigate the winding pathways of Doctor Doom’s castle, fending off increasingly powerful waves of his minions as you collect power-ups of your own to try and reach the villain ahead of a Siege Meter filling up.

You face harder challenges over time, so being efficient and ruthless will help you along. Failure to meet that goal is only an opportunity to come back stronger, though, since you unlock permanent upgrades after each run, making things a little bit easier to fight through the castle’s earlier areas.

It’s a system we’ve seen work wonders before, and it’s even more exciting here when you consider that you’ll be taking absolute powerhouses like Sue Storm, Nova, Spider-Man and Black Panther into the fray. Perhaps you’ll choose more recent roster members like Cyclops or The Thing with his raw strength instead. Either way, this looks like a blast, and the new trailer should give you a better picture of why.
