Bioware confirmed that Mass Effect Andromeda, while not starting a new trilogy, will definitely be the start of a new saga- but it not being a trilogy means that the story may not be mapped as meticulously from start to finish as it was in the original trilogy. This also leads to the possibility that the Ryder siblings, who are in the starring role in Andromeda, won’t be returning. At least, that’s been the sort of confusion that’s been percolating ever since the announcement (I personally think all the misconceptions are gigantic stretches and leaps of logic, and can’t for the life of me understand how people arrived at those conclusions).
However, speaking on his Twitter, Bioware’s Mac Walters cleared the air on that, pointing out that Bioware had never said that the Ryder siblings will or will not be returning- he leaves it open, not confirming it either way, but it is at least heartening to see that the possibility for it happening exists.
It will be interesting to see how the Ryder siblings are received- my assumption is, if they are received as well as Commander Shepard was, then they’ll be here to stay. Mass Effect Andromeda launches in Spring 2017 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
