When people who preordered the collector’s edition of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain to get their hands on their copy of the game, they also got a special surprise. The collector’s edition of the game also comes with a blu-ray disc that contains an episode of the story that was cut from the final game. The disc also has all of the trailers that were released for the game, as well as some behind the scenes footage that includes Kojima working on what is seemingly his final project with Konami.

Gamespot was the first to find the cut episode and it seems like it’s too bad that Kojima or Konami didn’t find a way to get that episode into the finished product. The episode was intended to be number 51 and it was titled Kingdom of the Flies. The episode obviously wasn’t finished so there is a lack of polish and not a whole lot of cutscenes but it does bring a little bit more backstory to a number of characters and sheds some light on the motivations of both Liquid Snake and Big Boss.

It’s interesting to note that this episode would have tied the game to future iterations better and that makes this cut episode very interesting to get a look at for that reason alone. While the footage isn’t available to the public yet, once more people get their hands on the Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain collector’s edition, it’s a safe bet that the video will end up on YouTube.
