Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has reaffirmed that the company will continue to produce and publish games. In an interview with Business Insider, Nadella talks about the company’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Answering a question about the acquisition, Nadella states that it is an important one, because gaming is an important part of Microsoft’s business.

“When I think about Microsoft, I think of perhaps developer tools, proprietary software, and gaming,” says Nadella. “Those are three things that we’ve done from the very beginning. And so, to us, gaming is the one place where we think we have a real contribution to make in consumer markets.”

Nadella goes on to talk about how much more time newer generations spend on gaming, and how even the delivery of games on mobiles, consoles or PCs has been changing over the years.

“So, we’re looking forward to really doubling down both as a game producer and a publisher,” he says. “Now we’ll be one of the largest game publishers and also as a company that’s building platforms for it.”

With the recent completion of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the company now also officially owns the several major IPs. Alongside its own franchises like Gears of War, Halo, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Forza, Microsoft now also owns other major franchises, like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.
