BitCoin, the cyber crypto-currency that has made a fair few waves throughout the world, is now officially accepted as a form of payment on Microsoft’s Xbox Live store on Xbox One and Xbox 360 (and also on the Windows Marketplace stores on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8). So far, the option for this is restricted to just the US, which, if you ask me, seems to be missing the point of a crypto-currency entirely, but still, it’s a nice first step for those who want to see BitCoin legitimized more, I guess.

Microsoft added the option for BitCoin quietly to the Xbox Live store- Reddit users noted that it was now accepted, with there being no fanfare around any of it. BitCoin can be used on the store to purchase movies, music, and of course, video games.

This makes Microsoft the first major console holder to accept BitCoin payments (although Ouya has already been doing so since launch).

Let’s see if Sony and Microsoft respond in kind.
