At this point, having Minecraft on your platform is practically mandatory. Minecraft is a global sensation with children around the world, and it is the highest selling game of all time- Nintendo understands the importance of the game, as even legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto conceded that Minecraft was desirable on Nintendo platforms.
Minecraft on Nintendo did happen – the title launched on the Wii U in December last year – but it was far too late to make much of a difference to the fortunes of the troubled Nintendo console. However, Nintendo may be changing that with the NX- from things that Mojang’s business developer Patrick Geuder has been saying on Twitter, the developer does expect to have devkits for Nintendo’s new system soon.
Apparently, they were expecting to get their hands on Nintendo’s console today, but because of some misunderstanding, that seems to not have happened- instead, Geuder thinks that Mojang may learn more about the Nintendo NX at E3, which does make sense- even though Nintendo does not plan to show off the console to the public and press, they probably will be making an outreach to game developers and publishers at the event. That is probably where the Minecraft developer will be getting its hands on the devkits for Nintendo’s new console.
Which means that Minecraft is probably the newest game we can add to the list of games we know will be coming to Nintendo’s machine.
