Shortly after first being spotted on Germany’s game ratings website, Minecraft for Xbox Series X/S has now been rated by the US Entertainment Software Ratings Board. The rating indicates that a current-gen release for Minecraft might be closer than we expect.

Players can currently play Minecraft on their Xbox Series X/S console by making use of the platform’s backwards compatibility with the Xbox One version of the game. As such, the game is unable to make use of modern features, like the more powerful hardware on the Xbox Series X/S, as well as faster load times offered by the SSD.

There is still no word on whether the current-gen release of Minecraft will be a cross-platform one, or if PlayStation Minecraft players will be relegated to the PS4 version of the game.

Minecraft‘s most recent update, dubbed the Trails and Tales update, added a host of new features to the game, including archeology, as well as new materials to discover and build with, and a new cherry blossom biome.
