Modern Warfare 3 sells 6.5 Million Copies in the US and UK in 1 Day

Posted By | On 11th, Nov. 2011

Activision has just released the PR for Modern Warfare 3 sales figures and they have mentioned that they sold 6.5 million units in one day. That’s a lot actually and it also made them richer by $400 millioon. Of course, it’s going to sell a lot more, since these are just day 1 figures.

Note: They have mentioned that these sales are only from two territories – US and UK. The final figure may be more than 7 million easily.

It’s no doubt going to top the November NPD. Compared to Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, this is slightly higher revenue wise to Activision. Black Ops made them $360 million and Modern Warfare 3 made them $310 million.

The franchise right now, like it or not, is growing. That’s right, this monster franchise shows no signs of declining. We have to give credit to the loyal fanbase that keeps on buying these games, that’s for sure!

We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc.

Other than Call of Duty, there has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records three years in a row. Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise exceed worldwide theatrical box office for “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings,” two of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.

Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg was a bit more emotional, “Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing added, “Call of Duty is more than a game. It’s become a major part of the pop cultural landscape. It is a game that core enthusiasts love, but that also consistently draws new people into the medium.”

It is the most intense, adrenaline pumping entertainment experience anywhere. I would like to thank our incredible teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games for making a brilliant game. But most of all, I would like to thank our millions of passionate fans worldwide. We made this game for you.
