With a surprisingly strong hold for the Switch as well.

It’s Wednesday, which means the latest Japanese sales charts are now available for the week ending last Friday. As expected, Monster Hunter World topped the charts yet again, with an extremely strong hold, selling about 300,000 copies, and bringing its total sales to over 1.5 million units. Monster Hunter World also buoyed PS4 sales to a staggering 109,000 units for the week.

On the Nintendo front, they have no less than twelve evergreen software SKUs in the top 20, which ended up pushing the Switch to over 40,000 units sold, even in a week with absolutely no new releases, and with Monster Hunter‘s domination. The 3DS limped into a weak third place, with 11,000 units sold.

For the foreseeable future, it is likely that Monster Hunter and PS4’s dominance over the charts will continue- it will be interesting to see what major release Nintendo wants to push out to try and counter the momentum a bit back in its favor.
