Mortal Kombat 11 took the series, and fighting games in general, to a height its never seen before. And with continued support and a lot of guest characters to keep the buzz up, it’ll likely be at the peak for a pretty long time. It also seems that the team behind it are looking at it as an end, of sorts, as the series Creator sees it as an end to a saga.

In an interview at The Brasil Game Show, Ed Boon states that Mortal Kombat 11 is the end of the story. It’s not clear if he just means the rebooted saga that began in Mortal Kombat 9 or if he’s talking as a whole to the entire Mortal Kombat story. Whatever he means, it doesn’t mean the series is over as he also teased a big surprise for next year for the series. He could be referring to a host of things, from more than expected DLC to new spinoff series, something that hasn’t been seen since the PS2 days. Could we also be looking at a reboot of the reboot soon?

“The story of Mortal Kombat, we’re pretty much calling this one the end of the story, but we’re certainly not through with Mortal Kombat. You know, there’s more characters that are going to come, and we have a big surprise coming next year for Mortal Kombat.”

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now across all major platforms. We’ll keep you updated whenever this big surprise hits us.
