Mouthwashing came out of nowhere late last year and quickly turned into an underground sensation. The horror adventure title was widely acclaimed by those whose attention it grabbed, and that strong word of mouth has resulted in pretty strong sales.
Taking to Twitter, publisher Critical Reflex announced that Mouthwashing has sold over 500,000 units since releasing for Steam last September. The game will expand its audience later this year with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch versions confirmed. On PS5 and Switch, it will also get a physical release, courtesy of Fangamer.
Mouthwashing is set aboard a space freighter and tells the story of its crew following a shipwreck in space during a routine run. It unfolds in a non-linear fashion and leans heavily on psychological horror. On Steam, it enjoys an “Overwhelmingly Positive” user review rating, with 96 percent of over 24,000 users giving it a thumbs-up at the time of writing.
Exactly when Mouthwashing will come to consoles this year remains to be seen, but hopefully, that announcement will be made sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
