MultiVersus

Over the years, there’s been no shortage of games that have tried to do what Super Smash Bros. does and replicate at least a little bit of its success in the process, though not many have succeeded. Early indications are, however, that WB Games and Player First Games’ free-to-play crossover platform fighter MultiVersus might be doing just that.

MultiVersus – which launched in open beta yesterday – has enjoyed the biggest launch ever on Steam for a WB Games title. On launch day, the game had a peak concurrent player count of 144,456 players, making it one of the most played games. At the time of its peak, it was ahead of Destiny 2, Monster Hunter Rise, and Apex Legends.

Prior to MultiVersus, the WB Games title with the best Steam launch to date was another rather recent release, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which had a peak concurrent count of over 82,000 on launch day. Prior to that, Back 4 Blood briefly held that crown, having had a peak count of over 65,000 players at launch in October last year.

MultiVersus is available in open beta for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
