Ever since Nintnedo’s former president Satoru Iwata passed away earlier this year, Nintendo’s series of webcasts, Nintendo Direct, that they used to communicate information about upcoming products directly to fans, has been on a hold. Since the success of Nintendo Direct was so inextricably tied to Mr. Iwata’s persona (he hosted most of them himself), and since we have not had any Nintendo Direct since his passing, even though we have had several major announcements from Nintendo, there have been fears that the series will end now, with his passing.

However, Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to continue with them.

“Nintendo Directs will continue,” the publisher told IGN, “but we have no details to provide now on who will be featured or the topics that will be covered.”

It is my opinion that there will be no more Directs for the rest of the year, out of respect for Iwata’s passing, but that beginning next year, Nintendo will revive the format, especially in the leadup to the NX launch.
