Nintendo Discusses and Dates Several Major Wii U Titles

Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, X, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze all headline Wii U in 2014.

At their Nintendo Direct presentation today, Nintendo went through some new gameplay footage for several of their upcoming major Wii U exclusives. These included Bayonetta 2 by Platinum Games, Monolith Soft’s tentatively titled ‘X,’ Nintendo’s own Mario Kart 8, Sakurai’s Super Smash Bros., and Retro Studio’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which releases next week.

Except for Tropical Freeze, which already had a concrete release date, and Mario Kart 8, which got its rather vague ‘May 2014’ launch narrowed down to May 31 2014 none of the other titles were given specific dates, instead just being pegged for a nebulous release date some time in 2014.

Apart from the general sadness of these long awaited titles (all of these were announced a year ago, except for Bayonetta 2, which was announced two years ago, and Super Smash Bros., which was announced three years ago), the games themselves look absolutely incredible. Be sure to check out the latest gameplay footage above.
