As we near the inevitable reveal of Nintendo’s mysterious new NX, more and more evidence is coming to light that suggests that the console may in fact be launching in 2016. The latest is the latest research study released by Technavio (via Business Wire), which indicates that Nintendo is getting ready to launch their next generation system some time in 2016.

“The market is predicted to grow with the launch of various next-generation consoles. Nintendo is set to launch their next-generation gaming consoles in 2016, which will drive the growth of the market in 2017. Post 2019, Xbox and PS4 are also predicted to launch their next-generation gaming consoles over the next four years,” said Soumya Mutsuddi, one of Technavio’s lead research analysts for gaming.

This is particularly interesting, because it indicates that the NX will be joined by updated systems from Microsoft and Sony sooner than anyone predicted- though whether or not these new systems are the updated PS4 and Xbox One that have long been rumored, or just full on new generation hardware, remains to be seen.

The Nintendo NX should hopefully be revealed by E3 this year. Stay tuned.
