Nintendo Refutes “Big Splatoon News” Rumor

Smoke, but no fire?

Posted By | On 11th, May. 2018

Yesterday, news broke out that Nintendo is apparently gearing up for a major Splatoon elated announcement on June 9, right before E3. It was interesting news, too, because it was hard to guess what kind of announcement it might be referencing: a new mode? A port of the original game? Splatoon 3Splatoon: Battle Royale? Something else entirely?

As it turns out, we may be spared the necessity of guessing (and then being proven wrong) entirely- Nintendo, in an uncharacteristic break from tradition, has commented on the rumor, very explicitly stating that no major Splatoon related announcement is coming on that day.

“Although we do not normally comment on rumors and speculation, we can confirm that, contrary to the rumors circulating since yesterday, the Japanese weekly magazine in question has not written any article about an announcement related to Splatoon for June 9. With which, it is a baseless rumor,” Nintendo said (translation via ResetEra).

There is a possibility that Nintendo is using this as misdirection- as noted, they actually do not comment on rumors, so maybe this is an attempt to dispel speculation about what was intended to be a surprise announcement. Or maybe there really isn’t anything coming on that day. Guess we’ll find out either way soon.
