Rumours of Nintendo’s next generation console have been swirling for a while now, and more concrete details on the hardware and its launch have started emerging in recent weeks. Last week, a report by VGC’s Andy Robinson claimed that the console would be another hybrid similar to the Switch, feature an LCD screen rather than an OLED one, and would launch sometime in the second half of 2024, following which, prominent insider NateTheHate offered more details on it in his podcast.

As per NateTheHate, the Nintendo Switch successor will feature an 8-inch LCD screen at launch. For comparison, the base Switch model has a 6.2-inch screen, while the Switch OLED has a 7-inch screen. NateTheHate also corroborated the aforementioned leak’s claim that the new console will continue to use cartridges for physical media, but also added that it will likely be a new format, while also corroborating that it will feature expanded internal storage, stating that number will likely stand at 512 GB. Additionally, it’s also claimed that the console will launch sometime in September or October.

While NateTheHate did say that these details are “informed speculation” based on the things he’s been hearing about the Switch successor (or whatever it ends up being called), VGC’s Andy Robinson has since then said in a recent episode of the VGC Podcast that the information is “on the money”.

As for when we might expect to hear the console, that remains to be seen, but if it is indeed still over a year away from launch, there’s a good chance that we won’t be hearing much about it (at least through official channels) for a few more months yet.

Of course, the Nintendo Switch itself is continuing to sell impressive numbers, even this deep into its lifecycle. As of June 30, it has sold over 129.5 million units worldwide.
