Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

It’s Wednesday, which means the newest round of Media Create numbers is now available. As you may expect, on the hardware side of things, Nintendo continues to reign atop, with the Switch coming in at number 1, with over 53,000 units sold. The PS4 managed a very respectable second place with 35,000 units sold (indicating that the sub-20,000 sales it suffered from for a few weeks were in fact from a shortage), while 3DS, with almost 11,000 units sold, rounded out the top three.

On the software front, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze topped charts with 88,400 units sold. Elsewhere on the charts, Nintendo software such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (the latter extremely close to hitting 1 million at retail on Nintendo Switch alone in Japan) legged it out, as did God of War, which continues to have a surprisingly strong showing.

Japan is entering a quiet period for the next few weeks, and with Golden Week now behind us, it will be interesting to see how game sales continue to hold up in the coming months.
