Nintendo Switch and PES 2018 Top Japanese Sales Charts This Week

Meanwhile, newcomers Uncharted and Metroid have relatively subdued launches.

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for the newest Media Create charts, for Japanese hardware and software game related sales. This week’s charts are especially interesting- PES 2018 ended up topping charts, while fan favorite series Uncharted and Metroid saw relatively subdued debuts for their newest games, with Samus Returns and The Lost Legacy launching in third and fourth place respectively.

That said, those franchises have always enjoyed far lesser popularity in Japan than they do in the west, so that does make sense. On the other hand, games like Splatoon 2Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Switch version of Monster Hunter XX, and the 3DS and PS4 versions of Dragon Quest 11 all had great showings this week, showcasing some pretty good legs.

On the hardware front, the Switch topped hardware charts again, with 44,000 units sold; the PS4 came in second place, with 24,660 units, while the 3DS rounded out the top three with 21,565 units. It is, at the very least, good to see three reasonably healthy systems in Japan after what seemed to be a period of slump at this point.
