Nintendo Switch Isn’t Fully USB-C Compliant

Nintendo took some half steps on its USB-C Implementation

The Nintendo Switch is the little console that just keeps printing money for Nintendo, with a healthy mix of old ideas and new innovations that make the console fit into any lifestyle imaginable. However it seems that one of the most forward thinking ideas on the system, the USB-C port, isn’t as thought through as one might hope.

As shared by users on Reddit, the USB-C port on the Nintendo Switch isn’t actually fully USB-C compliant. The system itself doesn’t properly utilize the protocols and as such, will try to use third party cables for things they aren’t capable of. This is likely why third party docks seem to be bricking systems and causing problems.

The person who researched all of this, Nathan K, thinks that the misuse of protocols might be Nintendo’s attempt to force users to stick to Nintendo branded chargers and peripherals. Though it’s worth noting that trying to make what is supposed to be a universal port into something proprietary really defeats the point.
