Nintendo Switch Leads Another Week In Japan Sales

Switch rules the roost, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe finally falls to second place.

The latest report of video game hardware and software sales from Japan is now out, and, once again, the Nintendo Switch topped charts, selling more than any other video game system in Japan last week. The PS4 came in second place, surging ahead of the 3DS, which came in third place.

On the software side of things, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe‘s monopoly and first place hold was broken by Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, which launched on the PS4 (it launched on the PS Vita last year). Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was second place, beaten very narrowly. Elsewhere, the cumulative sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are now over 600,000 units in Japan at retail alone.

Major releases are coming up soon- ARMS, Splatoon 2, Monster Hunter XX, and Dragon Quest 11. It should be interesting to see what effect these releases end up having on the Japanese market.
