Nintendo Switch Software Sales Are Continuing To Exceed Expectations

The biggest launch year for software Nintendo has ever had on record.

The Nintendo Switch has been a success beyond what anyone might have expected (except for me, but I like not saying ‘I told you so’). And if you felt that it might be slowing down any time soon, well, think again. NPD’s Mat Piscatella has confirmed that sales of Nintendo’s hot hybrid console continue to exceed expectations.

In fact, the most impressive statistic may be the one on the software front- Piscatella has confirmed that the Switch’s launch year is set to be the biggest launch year for software Nintendo has ever had on record. Bigger than the N64, Gameboy Color, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, or Wii U.

Given that the Switch has actually not had that many retail releases (most of them have been eShop ones), this is immensely impressive, and it points at a high attach rate for the system- something that is bound to continue to catch third party publishers and developers’ eyes going forward.
