The Nintendo Switch has been the highest selling console in the United States for a number of months running now, which has been helped by the slowing sales of the PS4 and Xbox One in recent months, what with their successors having been on the horizon. Their successors are here now though, and the Switch still managed to come out on top.
The NPD Group recently reported that the Switch and Switch Lite collectively sold over 1.35 million units in the United States over the course of November, thanks to boosted sales on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The Switch has now sold 6.92 million units in the United States in 2020 so far, with year-to-date sales being higher than they were at this point in 2019 by 426,000 units. This also means that the Switch has been the highest selling console in the United States for 24 consecutive months, which is a new record.
What’s notable is that November saw the launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as well. All new consoles were famously sold out pretty much everywhere, so for the Switch to still come out on top in terms of unit sales is an impressive achievement.
