Shortages have become something of a meme, a joke, with Nintendo. Every time the company introduces a new product, there are chronic shortages for it, which causes many would be buyers to simply give up in frustration and move on with their lives. This has happened with Amiibos, the NES Classic Mini, and lately, even the Nintendo 3DS.
So you can imagine that people are actually fairly nervous regarding the upcoming Switch, especially given reports of it selling out all over- will we see shortages for the new system at launch and beyond? According to Nintendo UK boss Nicolas Wegnez, that will not happen.
“It’s true pre-orders are very strong, but we still expect Nintendo Switch to be available at some retailers on Day One,” Wegnez said to to MCV. “We do expect shipments to steadily come. As we all know, this is not a sprint but a marathon, which is why we are so busy preparing strong plans for the months to come following the launch.”
His words aren’t too reassuring- ‘some retailers’, ‘we do expect’, ‘we still expect’ all sound like passive, ambiguous phrases- but at least it is somewhat relieving to see a Nintendo executive tackle this issue head on, if nothing else.
