Now that Heroes of the Storm is officially out and available on the PC, there have been some rumors that the game could be coming to current generation consoles. It seems as if some of those rumors have actually been started by Blizzard developers. Of course the company was quick to point out there isn’t really any kind of version being actively developed for the Xbox One or the PS4 but some of the people working on the game have tried to “slap” it into Microsoft’s console.
The comments about some Blizzard workers attempting to put the game on an Xbox One came from a meeting between members of the wesbite Mutiplayer.it and the company behind Heroes of the Storm. The game’s Senior Artist Phil Gonzales made some comments about working on a console version saying, “Basically does not exist. But I know that some colleagues have been experimenting, trying to slap the game into an Xbox. Walking around the offices, from time to time, I happen to someone caught with its pad in hand, trying to play. But there is no.”
It seems likely that anything Blizzard puts out will get questions about whether or not it is going to come to consoles after the success of a console port of Diablo III. The problem is that there are specific challenges when it comes to a MOBA like this one that Blizzard likely doesn’t have any interest in tackling at the moment. On the other hand, one has to wonder whether the company is really willing to ignore the chance at growing the subscriber base for Heroes of the Storm in that direction for long.
