No new engine for Modern Warfare 3

Posted By | On 02nd, Mar. 2011

Since Call of Duty 2 was released back in 2005, all CoD games have run on the Infinity Ward engine and this trend looks set to continue in the next Call of Duty title.

Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling was told that “someone just needs to spend the $ and construct a new engine for the CoD franchise… Ground up” on twitter and he replied in kind stating “that would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right.”

I guess you can say that there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken but, with rivalling franchise Battlefield adopting the new frostbite engine for its third instalment, will the old CoD engine be able to compete?

Thanks to CVG for the info.
