Outlast Announced, Boasts Industry Veterans, Hell-Based Experiments

It's like Grave Encounters! Done right!

Red Barrels, a newly formed independent developer, has just announced their first project: Outlast, a first person survival horror set in an insane asylum. And according to the trailer, it looks the inmates – heavily implied to be Hell’s poster boys – are in charge.

The trailer gives off a very “found footage” vibe before descending into sheer escape and survival, as journalist Miles Upshur traverses hallways and openings in the floors of the Mount Massive Asylum to escape rabid patients. Philippe Morin, co-founder of Red Barrels stated that, “There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them”.

With industry veterans who have worked on titles like Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Uncharted, Outlast looks to be a rolicking new addition to the pants-wetting school of psychological horror games. It will be available as a digital download in 2013.
