Palworld developer Pocketpair has issued a statement in which it confirms that its survival game will not be switch to a live service or free-to-play model. In a recently published interview with ASCII.jp, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe stated that final decisions hadn’t yet been made whether Palworld would continue to operate as a paid title, but following concerns from fans in the wake of the interview over the game potentially adopting a live service model, Pocketpair has issued a statement on Twitter to assure that that will not happen.

“We are not changing our game’s business model, it will remain buy-to-play and not f2p or GaaS,” the developer writes.

As per Pocketpair, the aforementioned interview was “conducted several months ago”, and though the studio hadn’t decided at the time what the future of Palworld would be, it has, by now, “decided that the F2P/GaaS approach is not suitable for us.”

Palworld was never designed with that model in mind, and it would require too much work to adapt the game at this point,” Pocketpair’s statement reads. “Additionally, we are very aware that this just isn’t what our players want, and we always put our players first.

“We are still considering skins and DLC for Palworld in future as a means to support development, but we will discuss this with you all again as we get closer to that point. For now, our priority remains making Palworld the best game possible.”

Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. A PS5 version of the title could finally be announced at Tokyo Game Show later this month- read more on that through here.
