Payday 3 has been a long time coming. We first heard about it all the way back in 2016, while the game reportedly entered production the following year, while in 2018, reports emerged that Starbreeze had raised funds to help with the game’s development. There have been next to no updates on the shooter since then- but Starbreeze assures that it is coming, even if it takes a while.
In an update talking about estimates of future cashflow, Starbreeze said that it expects to see a rise in revenue in the coming years, and as one of the reasons for that boost, it mentioned an expected launch of Payday 3 in the 2022-23 financial year. That’s all that was said about the game, but considering that time frame, a release on next gen consoles (and PC, of course) seems obvious.
Starbreeze have been going through some tough times of late. Owing to the failure of Overkill’s The Walking Dead – developed by Payday developers Overkill Software – the company faced major financial losses. That said, Payday has been a proven success for both of them in the past, and doubtless, they’ll be hoping that the sequel – far away though it might be – brings them some respite from their financial woes.
