Atlus had promised us some major new news for Persona 5 today, and they have delivered- one of the many things that they showed off at the Persona 5 Premium Event were the first 18 minutes from the game, which you can check out for yourself in the video below. Do keep in mind, however, that the video very naturally has spoilers. If you want to go into the game blind – and considering just how story focused the Persona games are, there might be many of you who want to – don’t watch the video, or read this post beyond this point.

That said, if you do watch it, you are in for a treat. The soundtrack for the game pops, the protagonist is voiced and seems to emote very well in cutscenes, unlike the blank slate heroes the previous Persona games got, the graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay seems to be far more dynamic and mobile than any previous game in the series, and the beginning is faster paced and far more engaging off the bat than it was in any previous game in the franchise.

All in all, the first 18 minutes have me convinced that Persona 5 is set to be something special- and I eagerly await playing this game, which, it seems like, will be worth the wait. Persona 5 launches on the PS3 and PS4 in Japan on September 15, in North America on February 14, and in Europe some time in 2017.
